weigh in: 323

Yesterday, while a great day to pick for a start, being the married man i am i was a little busy. Actually, i did not spend a ton of time on v-day, but did have a photoshoot on the glorious day, and an art opening in Georgetown.

323–woo. my Wii fit pokes fun at me, but i don’t mind, given 2 months ago i was over  350. This is a pretty decent head start. I also know that given my goals i’ll never get out of its taunts. Muscle weighs more than fat, so neener.

My Garmin Forerunner 50 (with heart rate monitor and foot pod) arrived on Friday! The concept is very fresh. I’ve been wearing my heartrate monitor ever since, simply because i’m a geek. In practice, it seems to have some issues. The ANT stick doesn’t work on my PC–granted it is running Windows 7. I noticed it was running under joy’s login though, so perhaps I’m missing something. I’ll get back to that later, as it does work on the Mac Mini. Except the uploading to Garmin connect doesn’t work.  As a web developer (specifically Java, given Garmin’s site is obviously running on Tomcat) it’s frustrating me–i want to grab their code and fix it myself. Instead I wait for a response as to why it can’t find the name i’ve registered in their database, to authorize my desktop app to upload to their service. In the meantime i’m looking at tools to just pull the data files themself somewhere else so i can muck with it on my own. I’ve been measuring the Wii Sports   ‘cos i wanted some real, personal data on its efficacy.

A quick note on food. I fixed my kids their Sunday cinnamon rolls. As i was icing them i realized how much i actually don’t really strongly desire them; i usually would eat them simply because they were available.  It’s like that with a lot of food for me. If i take one second to think whether or not i really want something, or am I eating it ‘cos it was offered, it’s usually the latter.  Simply being deliberate has helped me push aside stuff i should have and would have anyway. Now I can’t front–there are dishes and snacks that are tough to Just Stop Eating (hi pistachios and dried bananas! hi shepherd’s pie! (hi Chris lol)); i’ll deal with those on a case by case basis.

One thing is obvious–i enjoy doing this. I’m beginning to remember why i started bodybuilding and lost so much years ago…i just really enjoy it. I haven’t gotten into the exercise thing (well outside of the Wii Fit–i look forward to those workouts, and many of them truly are workouts–i’ll prove it with data when i get this Garmin junk worked out;-) yet, but its fun to be aware.

  • I have been using an app for my iPhone to track what I put into my body, Lose it.
    http://www.loseit.com/
    It's free.
I set my desired goal and it calculates what I can eat per day to reach it in 'X' amount of time. I even set mine back from the suggested 2,107 cal/day to 1,703. Takes some getting used to. Takes insane discipline. And, not to mention takes clever thinking when choosing meals to make thru the day!
But as far as exercise goes, it sucks. It's boring. Cardio and fat burn that is...
But weight training burns insane calories! And results are 2X as fast as you burn fat AND build lean muscle!
Before you know it you're bulging in all the right places!

hah yet another reason for an iphone:)

    looks really *nice*.

i'm a huge fan of weight training over anything else. weight training builds muscles, which ups your metabolism, which burns fat.

aerobics is the "quick hit" straight to the loss, but i recommend to everyone--weight training is what's gonna give you the most bang for the buck. and dump the BS ladies about "too much muscle"--you won't get that far unless you're doing juice (yeah i said it, LOL).

big ups on the app hunt. i'm actually looking into seeing if i can acquire an iphone this week; this'll be one of the first things i'll throw on it.
  • you are a geek bro!! and i am different- i am MAD WANTING FOOD! i want the bad food. but i will get over this addiction and get into the game soon. gotta retrain this body of mine.
